where porches become stages, yards become seats + radical generosity + goodwill rule

perform

All musicians welcome! Solo or ensemble. The more genres the better. Keep reading so you’re fully aware of requirements. (There aren’t many.)

Generosity and goodwill in the form of a freely given set (45 or 60 minute to be determined by organizers).

Bring whatever gear you need for your performance. PA and other equipment is NOT PROVIDED by the event.

Coordinate with your porch host about the logistics of your performance (i.e. space needed, electricity needs, etc.).

Perform only during your assigned time (including soundcheck).

Offer a family-friendly performance. (Seriously, if you can't recognize what's appropriate when you're being hosted in someone's home and there's likely kids running around, this isn't your kinda gig.)

Play at a sound level respectful to the neighbors and/or other performers nearby. Acoustic levels always work but common sense consideration ultimately trumps. Think of your venue as the space between the house and the curb and adjust for that.

Not mandatory: put out a tip jar or a visible Venmo sign for tips.

host

Please know you don’t have to have the biggest porch in HP to host. Stoops, yards, or driveways can be the stage, too. Keep reading for some suggestions on how to be a great porch host.

Check your email regularly throughout the month of September.

Designate at least one parking space close to your porch so your performer(s) can easily park, unload, and reload.

Not mandatory, but certainly suggested: provide snacks and beverages for your performer(s).

Be available right before, during, and after your allotted slot, help as necessary, ensure appropriate volumes, and keep the performance to its assigned time.

Serve as an all around person-in-charge, maintain general order in and around your yard, keep the street clear, and assume responsibility for whatever occurs on your own property.

See a problem, solve a problem — in your yard or on the street.

Put out a trash bag/can and a recycle bag/bin for your guests.

Not mandatory but suggested: one or two pop-up tents in your yard in case it’s hot or rainy.
